Vermont arrest reports and agency routes

Vermont arrest records depend on the agency that created the report. Vermont State Police public records requests cover reports held by VSP; another arresting agency must be contacted for records it holds.

VSP requests use the public records webform. A case number can identify a report, or the request can use the incident date together with all parties involved and the incident type to help identify the record. If the case number is unknown, barracks staff may help identify the case. The VSP public records webform requires a valid email address for confirmation and status communication; it is not an email-submission route. A no-card letter can be sent to VSP Attn: Report Requests, 45 State Drive, Waterbury, VT 05671-2101. Keep the tracking number after submission. Report copies cost $20, photos cost $20, and video or audio requests cost $45. Processing uses a mailed report route, with a status response within 3 days. Active investigations, confidential records, and other release restrictions can limit availability. Non-release does not mean no event occurred. DMV crash reports are a separate DMV route rather than an active-investigation or release limitation for VSP records.

VCIC conviction records and complete personal history

The public VCCRIS Vermont conviction search uses name and date of birth, costs $30 including no-result searches, is nonrefundable, and provides an immediate save/print noncertified conviction product. It is not a complete arrest search. The public conviction product is limited to conviction-charge information and excludes docket numbers under 20 V.S.A. §2056c(a)(2)(B). It is not a complete docket history or arrest record. A negative result does not prove that no arrest exists, and court disposition follow-up may be needed to determine how an arrest case concluded, including whether it resulted in a conviction.

Complete personal history requests are subject-only and include all dispositions through the Personal Criminal Record Check and Notary forms. Written requests use the forms signed and notarized by the subject. Mail requests use a SASE, cashier's check or money order payable to Department of Public Safety, and the Criminal Records Section/VCIC route at 45 State Drive, Waterbury, VT 05671-1300. Personal or business checks are not accepted. Walk-in complete or certified requests use two primary IDs or one primary and one secondary ID. Free in-person viewing differs from paid copies: the $30 fee applies to mailed/copy record requests, not free viewing. VCIC instructions require the subject Notary form request to include a raised seal; if the requester’s state does not provide raised seals, the memo explaining that limitation must be included with the request. VCIC FAQ and current Personal Criminal Record Check instructions describe different request details: use the applicable written-request forms and mail instructions when requesting by mail, including the required subject forms and payment materials.

Vermont court records and dispositions

Court records are separate from VCIC and police reports. Requests for Access to Court Records for one case go to the handling court by email, mail, or hand delivery. Free public access terminal viewing differs from copies and printing. Court copy charges are $0.25 per page with a $1 minimum, certification is $5, and archive handling may add $7.50. A separate person-search route uses form 200-00331 with name and date of birth and a $30 per-name fee. Current instructions route mailed requests to the Judiciary Information Center, while hand delivery goes to the Criminal Division. Results may be returned by email or by SASE when postal return is requested. Pre-1990 requests may require mail or hand delivery to the county where the case was held. Confidential records and out-of-state exclusions remain applicable.

DOC records and corrections

The Vermont DOC Offender Locator provides DOC custody information and is not a complete arrest-history product.

VCIC own-history appeals use a written challenge to the VCIC Director, 45 State Drive, Waterbury, VT 05671-1300, with name and date of birth, disputed charge/date/docket, reasons, and contact information. VCIC provides a 3-business-day response timeframe; this is not a guaranteed resolution. Correction is separate from expungement, and a fingerprint requirement is not stated for this appeal route.
